Metabolism
The Metabolic Phenotyping Core (MEP) is a Scientific Research Service housed in the Center for Biometric Analysis. The MEP provides access to state-of-the-art in vivo energy-balance and glucose-homeostasis phenotyping in mice that are genetic models of human disease, such as obesity and diabetes.
The MEP capabilities include measurement of whole-body composition of fat and lean tissue mass via nuclear magnetic resonance; whole-body glucose, insulin and pyruvate tolerance; sub-cutaneous temperature; and parameters of energy balance (including energy expenditure, food intake, and activity) via indirect calorimetry. In addition to performing metabolic phenotyping, we offer training in performing the assays, and scientific consultation to assist with experimental design, data analysis, and data interpretation.
