Economic Impact of The Jackson Laboratory

As an internationally renowned research organization, The Jackson Laboratory is recognized for its contributions to scientific knowledge, its eminent faculty and research associates, and its collaborations with leading research and medical centers around the world. But in support of its nonprofit mission, JAX is also a major business enterprise with significant and lasting impact on the states and local communities that are home to our campuses.

JAX continues to grow — jobs and revenues are now at their highest levels ever. Employment has increased to almost 3,000 employees. In 2023, JAX’s total operational revenue was $620 million, with approximately $477 million from the mouse sales and services division, $112 million from grants and research contracts, and $31 million from other sources, including contributions and investments. Overall, in 2023, JAX had an economic impact of more than $1.2 billion.
