Robyn Ball, Ph.D.

Senior Computational Scientist

Dr. Ball develops novel and reproducible statistical resources, facilitating robust scientific discoveries in genetics and genomics.

At The Jackson Laboratory, I develop novel statistical methods and robust genomic resources to facilitate scientific discoveries in genetics and genomics, with a specific focus on identifying patterns in multi-modal data and cross-species analysis.

While a doctoral student in Statistics at Texas A&M University, I was awarded a NASA Fellowship where I developed a statistical model to predict ‘heart age’ using the electrocardiogram, for which I received NASA Inventions and Contributions Tech Brief Award for my outstanding contribution to science. During this same time, I completed two internships at MD Anderson Cancer Center where I applied machine learning techniques to cancer genomics.

Prior to re-joining The Jackson Laboratory in 2019, I was a Senior Statistician at Stanford University where I served as the statistical lead in medical research initiatives and mentored students and junior faculty in clinical research.

In her free time, Dr. Ball mentored computer science students in Stanford’s AI for Healthcare Bootcamp and worked with the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) to produce the 2019 and 2020 RSNA Kaggle competitions. Dr. Ball also serves on the Executive Committee of the American Statistical Association Statistical Consulting Section.
