Matthew Kim, BA

Computational Scientist

Data scientist and bioinformatician in charge of taking genomic research data developed at the Chesler lab to parse, analyze and create visualizations of findings.

At the Jackson Laboratory, I specifically work with data regarding addiction and neurogenetics of addiction. I design, analyze, and parse through addiction data in order to visualize and communicate findings with other members of the team. My current job duties in the data science team include the curation of transcriptome imputation for various processed mouse tissue data, visualization of PMCA data, and mapping of mouse genes to their respective human genes and then to known associated diseases.

Previously to joining the lab full time in 2024, I was a bioinformatics intern at The Jackson Laboratory with the Chesler lab. Through my prior contract, I was in charge of visualizing data of meta-analyses containing information about the variant effects and associated pleiotropic genes detected in mouse and human GWASs across multiple different addictive substances, such as nicotine, cocaine, and alcohol. This visualization was key in communicating this information for a publication the team produced on the GenomeMUSter service provided by the Jackson Laboratory in early 2024.
