Joshua Mitchell, M.D., Ph.D.

Data Scientist

My primary research interest is the development of computational tools for automated metabolome assembly and robust metabolite annotations from LC-MS datasets.

As a data scientist in the Shuzhao Li group my primary role is the development of next-generation tools for the meaningful analysis of LC-MS metabolomics datasets. This includes continued work on previously published tools from our lab such as Asari and Khipu and the development of new tools for more informative analyses. Of particular interest to me is the development of tools for the accurate annotation of detected but unknown metabolites. Prior to this position, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory where I used GCxGC-TOFMS to study the metabolomics of corn. My MD/PhD research focused on the creation of novel computational tools for direct infusion FT-MS datasets and I applied these tools to improve our understanding of the lipidomics of non-small cell lung carcinoma.
