Saturday, May 4, 2019 marked the 90th anniversary of the founding of The Jackson Laboratory. On that date in 1929, our visionary founder Clarence Cook Little launched the lab with eight employees and $50,000 in support from benefactors, along with a gift of land from family friend George B. Dorr.
Since then, JAX has grown tremendously. Today, JAX employs nearly 3,000 people and operates locations in three U.S. states, and internationally in Japan and China. Our scope and impact are truly global. Our mission has expanded to encompass human genomics as well as mammalian genetics, and our science has evolved with new discoveries and technologies that were unimaginable 90 years ago.
Among the countless discoveries, milestones, experiences and periods of growth, we chose some of those that best represent who and what JAX is.
