JAX Courses & Workshops relies on generous funding from individuals, sponsors, and granting agencies to continue to provide world-class instruction to learners across the globe. Your support directly helps us to...
In JAX Genomic Education, we are actively engaged in expanding our network of learners through increased strategic marketing and outreach. With your support we are able to offer more courses and workshops, reach broader, more diverse audiences, and offer further opportunities for students and scientists to engage with our specialized educational programs across virtual platforms and in more locations.
Offering courses and workshops that utilize specialized technology and scientific equipment can be expensive; and unfortunately, cost is often a deterrent for many seeking opportunities for professional development. In an effort to increase accessibility, we provide scholarships and reduced fees, and commit to reasonable pricing that is in line with The Jackson Laboratory's nonprofit mission. Donations help significantly to offset administrative and operational expenses so that we may continue to make our programs affordable to all prospective participants.
Faculty of JAX courses & workshops are leaders in genetics and genomics. Attendees of our programs are given first-hand access to subject matter experts in their field, and their interactions (whether virtual or in-person) remain a hallmark of the attendee experience. Supporters help us to continue to bring distinguished speakers from all over the world and make valuable connections with our learners and scientific community.

“Speaking as a physician and a researcher, this course is absolutely invaluable! It gives you an insight into all the latest techniques and technologies in genetics, as well as their application. All lectures are relevant and entertaining. With attendees from around the world the course offers an incredible opportunity to gain not only contacts but also friendships with foreign colleges.”
— Ellen Dagmar Bjornsdottir, MD | Human and Mammalian Genetics and Genomics: The McKusick Short Course
“This was an excellent course that connected participants around the world to world-class scientists with primary interests in genetics. As a student in their final year of a genetics PhD, it was a wonderful opportunity to be able to listen to lectures, participate in discussions, and present a poster on my research to experts in the field.”

“Even though I have years of experience in cancer research, I still managed to learn an amazing amount in this course. It featured world class researchers giving engaging talks across wide ranging aspects of cancer, and I continue to come back to the lectures available to participants. Would definitely recommend.”
— Alan Chramiec, Columbia University | Short Course on Experimental Models of Human Cancer
“The Jackson Laboratory Cancer Course provided great exposure to diverse cancer research topics. They had an excellent lineup of lecturers and even virtual symposium helped me feel connected to a wider research network.”

“This course was an excellent opportunity for both novices and experts to increase their depth of understanding of colony management, mouse strains and genetics, pathogens, reproduction and cryopreservation, among others. The information I gleaned at the course has been very useful ever since as I have been able to get ahead of some common mistakes. It has also helped me work more effectively with our mouse breeding core and research services since I now better understand their work-flow and priorities.”
— Ksenija Bernau, Univeristy of Wisconson-Madison | Workshop On Colony Management
“I was impressed with how well the training course was organized and presented. The participants rotated between different training platforms and were able to learn and observe all procedures, experimental techniques in one day, and practice all of them next day. Presentation materials were well-organized, all questions were timely and clearly answered, and course instructors/invited speakers were superbly professional with in depth expertise in corresponding fields. Moreover, we all had the opportunity to present our research and discuss our data with colleagues from different universities/companies. This course was excellent from registration to delivery to follow up.”
— Svetlana P. Chapoval, MD, PhD, University of Maryland School of Medicine | Workshop on Phenotyping Mouse Models of Human Lung Disease
“The Workshop on Surgical Techniques in the Laboratory Mouse is an amazing course. The instructors are knowledgeable and the staff are caring. Training in gonadectomy enhanced my fellowship application that was awarded, moreover, I learned a lot in caring for animals post surgery which has improved my surgical techniques and experimental outcomes. The workshop also enabled me to network and discuss professional development with trainees and staff from different institutions.”
— Benard Ogola, Tulane University | Workshop on Surgical Techniques in the Laboratory Mouse
“Participating in this workshop has been one of the best opportunities for professional development that I have had in my career. As a trainer myself, the enthusiasm and quality from the all the instructors inspired me with a renewed sense of excitement that has carried over into my own training classes. I was able to return home with a solid set of new surgery skills that I was able to put into practice immediately. For anyone that would like to increase their skillset and knowledge in rodent surgery, I highly recommend attending this workshop. I hope to return for other workshops in the future.”
— Jayson Egeler, M.S.,S.R.T., L.A.T, University of Michigan, Unit for Lab Animal Medicine | Workshop on Surgical Techniques in the Laboratory Mouse
“I could not recommend this course enough. I was surprised about all the resources and materials available for the attendees. The detail given and the time the instructors took to explain step by step the procedures was really amazing. Every participant had different levels of experience, but the instructors approached every participant individually and adapted to everyone's needs. It was very useful for me to increase my expertise in more research laboratory techniques and I see myself using them in my career.”
— Diana Benitez, University College London | Workshop on Surgical Techniques in the Laboratory Mouse
